I'd like to work at an animal related foundation but I have a History Degree...?

You can definitely parlay a history degree into a fundraising or marketing/PR career. However, you do need to demonstrate a passion for and a familiarity with the subject, so start volunteering for related local organizations now (any place that works with animals and/or conservation will do), and take some zoology or at least environmental electives if you can. And don't worry about grad school just yet. Unless you're working on the science side, it may not be necessary - and if it is, the types of degrees you'd be looking at (communications, nonprofit management, public administration, even business) tend to be more effective if you've had a little work experience first.
